On July 7, the Vermont State Police responded to two separate incidents in the Northeast Kingdom.
In Marshfield, at 9:16 p.m., troopers were called to a domestic disturbance. Investigation led to the arrest of Sydney Walden, of Marshfield, on charges including first- and second-degree aggravated domestic assault, resisting arrest, assault on a law enforcement officer, interference with access to emergency services, and unlawful restraint in the second degree. Police allege Walden unlawfully restrained household members, interfered with their ability to call for help, and caused serious bodily harm. During the arrest, Walden allegedly resisted and assaulted an officer. Walden was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing and then to the Northeast Correctional Complex, held without bail. He was cited to appear in court on July 8 at 12:30 p.m.
In a separate incident, at approximately 7:50 p.m., a trooper conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 91 near mile marker 132 observed a vehicle driving southbound in the northbound lanes. The vehicle was safely stopped near mile marker 131. The driver, Norman Gravel of Hardwick, was issued a citation for gross negligent operation. He is scheduled to appear in Caledonia County Superior Court on July 27 at 8:30 p.m.
NEK will be looking into the court outcomes for both cases.
