The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Caledonia County and portions of neighboring counties, effective until 8:45 p.m. July 14.
The warning covers east central Lamoille County, northeastern Orange County, Caledonia County, southwestern Orleans and Essex counties, and northeastern Washington County. The storm was located over Greensboro around 8:05 p.m., moving southeast at 45 mph.
Forecasters say the storm carries 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail, which could cause minor vehicle damage and knock down trees and power lines.
Affected communities include St. Johnsbury, Lyndon, Greensboro, Waterford, Stannard, Hardwick, Lunenburg, Sheffield, Lower Waterford, Lyndonville Village, Wheelock, Kirby, Victory, Barnet, Concord, Peacham, Danville, Walden, and Craftsbury. Interstates 91 and 93 are within the warned zone.
Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building until the warning expires.
