A routine traffic stop in Ryegate on June 19 led to the arrest of a Newbury man on multiple charges. Vermont State Police said a motor vehicle violation was observed around 3:30 p.m. on an unspecified road. During the stop, troopers identified a passenger, Christopher Kirk, 51, as having several outstanding arrest warrants from within the state.

Kirk was taken into custody and issued a criminal citation for two counts of violation of conditions of release, driving under the influence of drugs, and possession of narcotics. He was lodged at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury after failing to post $600 bail.

Kirk is scheduled to appear in Orange County Superior Court on June 22 at 12:30 p.m.

NEK will be looking into the warrants that led to Kirk's arrest.
