The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Caledonia County on June 18, effective until 2:30 PM EDT. At 2:10 PM, radar indicated a storm over Berlin moving northeast at 40 mph, with wind gusts up to 60 mph capable of damaging trees and power lines.
Affected locations include Barre, Montpelier, Calais, Plainfield, Orange, Websterville, East Montpelier, Waitsfield, Berlin, Worcester, Middlesex, Barre Town, Northfield Village, Washington, Northfield, Moretown, Barre City, Roxbury, Williamstown, and E F Knapp State Airport. Interstate 89 between mile markers 38 and 61 is also in the path.
A tornado watch remains in effect until 3:00 PM. Police advise moving to an interior room on the lowest floor and staying alert for possible tornadoes.
