Parts of Vermont will experience dangerous heat and humidity Friday afternoon and evening, according to the National Weather Service.
A heat advisory is in effect for the Champlain Valley, southern Vermont, and the lower Connecticut River Valley from Friday afternoon through Friday evening, the weather service said.
Heat index values, what the temperature feels like when humidity is factored in, are forecast to reach the mid-to-upper 90s. Dew points are expected to climb into the low to mid-70s, which will add to the discomfort.
Health police recommend drinking plenty of water, limiting outdoor activity, checking on neighbors, and never leaving children or pets in parked vehicles. Residents are advised to recognize when their bodies need a break from the heat and humidity.
