Vermont State Police arrested a Ryegate man July 17 on charges of domestic assault and interference with emergency services.

Troopers responded to a residence in Ryegate around 3:36 p.m. after receiving a report of a disturbance. Investigation determined that Jeffrey Mills, 48, assaulted a household member and prevented that person from calling 911, police said.

Mills was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury on $5,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on July 20 at 12:30 p.m.

State police did not release the name of the alleged victim, as is standard in domestic violence cases.
