A Lowell man faces a charge of driving under the influence with death resulting following a single-vehicle crash that killed his passenger on June 25.

Vermont State Police responded to Newton Road near Cheney Road in Lowell at approximately 10:23 p.m. after reports of a rollover. A 2021 Polaris RZR side-by-side was found overturned on the roadway. The operator, Randy Lemieux II, 27, of Lowell, was evaluated at the scene and reported no injuries.

The passenger, Maddison Hayden, 22, of Woodbury, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Troopers observed signs of impairment while speaking with Lemieux, who was screened and arrested. He was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility on $10,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Orleans Criminal Court on June 26 at 12:30 p.m.

Speed is believed to have been a factor, and the investigation remains active. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Vermont State Police at 802-334-8881 or submit a tip at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

NEK will be looking into whether a crash reconstruction report will be made public and for any prior DUI history for Lemieux.
