Vermont State Police are investigating an illegal dumping case in Willoughby State Forest, after approximately 40 tires were discovered on the side of a road. Police responded around 5 p.m. on July 21. Responding troopers found the tires at the edge of a roadway. A vehicle of interest was reportedly seen before the dumping occurred.

Trooper Benjamin Goodwin, based at the St. Johnsbury Barracks, is handling the investigation. Anyone with information can call 802-748-3111. Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation notes that roadside dumping is illegal and can harm wildlife. Tires are among the items banned from landfills and household trash in Vermont, requiring alternative disposal methods.
