The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning for Caledonia County on Wednesday evening, effective until 10:30 p.m. The warning came after emergency management reported flash flooding in Wolcott, where East Hill Road near Young Road was washed out and impassable.
Between 2 and 3 inches of rain had fallen by 8:49 p.m. No further rainfall was expected, but flooding impacts were ongoing. The warning covered areas including Wolcott, Elmore, Woodbury, Hardwick, Craftsbury, Greensboro, Morristown, Lake Elmore, and Elmore State Park.
Police urged residents to avoid driving through flooded roads, reminding that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. The warning expired as scheduled.
