Heavy rain has caused flooding in Barre City and road blockages in Caledonia County as of the evening of July 9, 2026. Police reports indicate that Main Street and South Main Street in Barre City are under water, and police are asking drivers to avoid downtown until water recedes.

Vermont Route 114 near Lyndon is also blocked by fallen trees near Mount Hunger Road. The closure is expected to last several hours.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning for low-lying areas in Washington, Orange, and Caledonia counties, in effect until 10:45 p.m. Thursday. As of 8:50 p.m., no official river gauges in the region were reporting flood stage levels.

NEK will be looking into whether any local streams or rivers exceeded flood stage later in the evening, and whether additional road closures were reported overnight.
