The National Weather Service in Burlington issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Caledonia County on July 1 at 7:49 p.m., effective until 8:30 p.m. The warning covers a storm located near Stowe moving east at 20 mph.
The storm carries 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Law enforcement reported multiple trees and powerlines down in Cambridge and Underhill, according to the NWS. Minor hail damage to vehicles is possible, along with wind damage to trees and powerlines.
Affected locations include Morrisville, Johnson Village, Calais, Eden, Cambridge, Cambridge Village, Stowe, Hardwick, Marshfield Village, Jeffersonville Village, Hyde Park, Wolcott, Worcester, Bolton, Richmond, Waterville, Underhill, Morrisville Village, Woodbury, and Johnson. Interstate 89 between mile markers 70 and 76 is also in the warning area.
The NWS advises moving to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building. Torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding; drivers should avoid flooded roadways.
