A 66-year-old Bradford man died late Thursday night after his motorcycle crashed on US Route 5 in Fairlee, Vermont State Police said.

Troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash near Mountain Road at about 10:42 p.m. on July 2, 2026. First responders from Bradford and Fairlee fire departments and Upper Valley Rescue were providing medical care when troopers arrived. The operator, identified as Glen Watkins, was declared dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts, police said.

Investigators determined that Watkins was riding north on US 5 when he failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. Speed and alcohol appear to have been factors, according to the Vermont State Police.

Watkins was not wearing a helmet, the report noted. His motorcycle was totaled.

The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Johnsbury barracks at 802-748-3111.
