Vermont State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of U.S. Route 5 and Lake Morey Road in Fairlee on May 30, 2026.
Troopers from the St. Johnsbury Barracks were dispatched around 12:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a collision.
Investigators determined that Kate Magill, 40, of Canaan, New Hampshire, was driving a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek northbound and attempting to turn onto Route 5 from Lake Morey Road. Magill entered the roadway and failed to notice a southbound 2021 Subaru Crosstrek driven by Kassie Covey, 39, of Thetford, Vermont, approaching the intersection.
The two vehicles struck each other and came to rest in the roadway. A 12-year-old juvenile from Canaan was a passenger in Magill's vehicle. All occupants were wearing seat belts, and no injuries were reported. No one required hospital transport.
Magill's vehicle sustained moderate front driver's side damage; Covey's vehicle had moderate front passenger side damage. Police cited Magill for failing to enter the roadway safely. Road conditions were dry and the weather was partly cloudy at the time of the crash.
