The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for Grafton County, New Hampshire, in effect until 8 p.m. on July 3. The warning covers portions of southwest and western Maine, as well as central, northern, and southern New Hampshire.
Heat index values could reach up to 110 degrees, with overnight lows only dropping into the 70s, leading to accumulated heat stress. The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly under such conditions.
Police advise drinking plenty of fluids, staying in air-conditioned spaces, avoiding direct sun, and checking on relatives and neighbors. Residents are reminded not to leave children or pets in parked vehicles, as interiors can become lethal within minutes. Lightweight, loose-fitting clothing is recommended, and strenuous outdoor activities should be limited to early morning or evening hours.
