The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, issued a severe thunderstorm warning July 1 at 8:57 p.m. for central Grafton County, effective until 9:45 p.m.

At 8:57 p.m., severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 8 miles northwest of Haverhill to 25 miles west of Piermont, moving southeast at 25 mph. The storms carry 60 mph wind gusts and nickel-size hail, which could damage roofs, siding, and trees, the weather service said.

Locations in the path include Lincoln, Haverhill, Groton, Woodstock, Piermont, Lyme, Alexandria, Bath, Benton, Dorchester, Easton, Ellsworth, Wentworth, Rumney, Warren, Orford, and Landaff. The warning also covers Mount Moosilauke, Rumney Rocks, Carr Mountain, and the Long Pond and Elbow Pond recreation areas.

Residents were advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building and to avoid driving through flooded roadways, as torrential rainfall could cause flash flooding.
