The National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Grafton County, New Hampshire, effective from early July 2 until 8 p.m. on July 3.
According to the alert, dangerously hot conditions are expected with heat index values reaching as high as 110 degrees. The warning covers portions of southwest and western Maine and central, northern, and southern New Hampshire.
Overnight low temperatures will only drop into the 70s, resulting in accumulated heat stress. Health officials warn that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during such extreme heat and high humidity events.
Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles, as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in minutes. Those who must be outside should wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
