MARSHFIELD, A pair of hawks, possibly goshawks, are nesting on a steep section of Thompson Road within Marshfield Forest, according to a report from the Hardwick Gazette. The birds have been swooping at trail users, coming within a few feet of people's heads and issuing loud warning calls.

The nesting area covers the trail from where King Brook Trail meets Thompson Road near the bottom of the hill, up to the point where Homestead Lane and Ravin Trail branch off just past the crest. The hawks follow people for about a quarter mile before retreating.

Police advise hikers to avoid this portion of the trail if possible.
