The Jaquith Public Library in Marshfield will host a crankie performance and workshop on July 18 at 1:30 p.m. Artist Delia Robinson will demonstrate the pre-industrial moving picture device and then teach participants to create their own crankie scroll and small cardboard theater.

A crankie is a box with a viewing window and a hand-cranked scroll of drawings, often accompanied by music or narration. Participants must be at least 12 years old, and space is limited. Those interested are asked to RSVP by email at [email protected] or by phone at (802) 426-3581.

Robinson is a visual artist, writer, researcher and singer whose work spans painting, mixed media, ceramics, sculpture and storytelling. Crankie creators from the workshop will be invited to perform their shows at a library event in August.

NEK will be following up on the August crankie showcase and library programming.
