Vermont State Police arrested a NewPort, Rhode Island, woman on suspicion of driving under the influence after her vehicle struck a telephone pole in Waitsfield on the evening of July 5.
Troopers from the Berlin Barracks responded to the intersection of Route 100 and Route 100B at about 8:51 p.m. for a report of a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, they found a 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had hit a telephone pole, causing significant damage. The vehicle was totaled. No injuries were reported.
The driver, Coral Stukus, 41, of Newport, Rhode Island, showed signs of impairment, according to police. She was arrested for DUI (first offense) and negligent operation. Stukus was transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing and later issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court, Criminal Division on July 23 at 8:30 a.m.
Route 100 was temporarily closed while crews from Green Mountain Power worked to remove active power lines from the roadway. Multiple first responders and witnesses assisted at the scene.
