VSAC awards over $150K to seniors in Orleans, Essex counties

The Vermont Student Assistance Corp. has awarded over $1.4 million in scholarships to graduating high school seniors across the state, including more than $150,000 to students in Orleans and Essex counties. VSAC also distributed over $4.6 million to college students returning this fall.

In Orleans County, seniors received a total of $106,165. At Craftsbury Academy, Elizabeth Brown and Elsa Keppel, Lonegren each received $4,000. Thirty seniors at Lake Region Union High School shared $39,500, and at North Country Career Center, Joshua Pavelchak and Sierra Tester received $3,000. North Country Union High School awarded $55,565 to 37 seniors.

In Essex County, Canaan Memorial High School gave $6,000 to four seniors: Jessa, Marie Bedard, Zachary Brown, Ayva D’Aiello and Paige Hughes. Lyndon Institute senior Jenna Fillion received $3,100, while Evan Tremblay, a senior at North Country Union High School, received $1,000. Saint Johnsbury Academy awarded $7,000 to four seniors: Isabella Mertens, Makyla Rich, Mya Rutledge and Brandon Smith.

VSAC administers 150 scholarships on behalf of state organizations, the federal government, civic groups and individuals. Awards are based on criteria such as residency, degree program, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and, in some cases, financial need.
