The Northeast Kingdom Fund at the Vermont Community Foundation awarded $115,800 in grants to 27 organizations across Orleans, Essex, and Caledonia counties in fall 2020.
The grants support education, food access, the arts, and outdoor engagement. “In this challenging year, the Foundation and our donors doubled down on our support of the Northeast Kingdom,” said Sarah Waring, vice president for grants and community investments. “Nonprofits and communities in the region have shown incredible resilience and creativity in the face of this pandemic, and we are proud to help their efforts to keep residents safe and connected.”
Recipients include Abenaki Helping Abenaki ($5,000 for a cultural center), Albany Community Trust ($5,000 to reopen the Albany General Store), and Charleston Elementary School ($1,000 for its 50th birthday celebration). Others receiving $5,000 each are the Hardwick Area Food Pantry, Helping Other People Everyday (HOPE), Kingdom Community Services, Kingdom County Productions, and Umbrella of St. Johnsbury. The Northeast Kingdom Collaborative received $10,000 for operating support during a leadership transition.
