EAST CHARLESTON, The NorthWoods Stewardship Center has released the second edition of its Northeast Kingdom Mountain Trail Guide, nearly a decade after the first edition sold out.

The updated 250-page guide, published in June, adds nearly 100 pages of new maps, photos, trail histories, and descriptions. It includes 12 new trail narratives, bringing the total to more than 20 trail descriptions covering popular areas such as Groton State Forest and the newly completed long-distance Kingdom Heritage Trail.

“This book was a real community effort,” said Kelsey Evans, NorthWoods communications director. “We had volunteers who hiked and ground-truthed the trails, created maps, and submitted photos of their favorite lookouts. We are very grateful to the members of the hiking community who helped make this book a success.”

Funding for the project came in part from the Vermont Community Foundation and the Westmore Association. Proceeds from sales support NorthWoods’ Conservation Corps, Forest Stewardship, Conservation Science, and Education programs.

The guide launched at Dirt Church Brewing Co. in July and is now available through the NorthWoods website at www.northwoodscenter.org, as well as at bookshops and general stores throughout the region.
