SCHENECTADY, N.Y., Two people were arrested June 8 after a stabbing that stemmed from an argument over a shared driveway, police said.

Officers responded to 22 Hawk Street at about 8:45 p.m. after receiving a report of a stabbing. They found a 31-year-old man with a stab wound to his back. The victim told police he had been arguing with a neighbor about the driveway when the stabbing occurred.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Tyriek Q. Sontag, 19, of Schenectady, and charged him with second-degree assault, a class D felony.

During the arrest, officers also took into custody Latisha M. Sontag, 39, the suspect's mother. Investigators said she interfered with her son's arrest and threw the knife used in the assault from the scene to prevent officers from finding it.

Latisha Sontag faces charges of third-degree criminal mischief (class E felony), tampering with physical evidence (class E felony), second-degree obstructing governmental administration (class A misdemeanor), and second-degree harassment (violation).

Both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
