The East Burke Fire Brigade is assessing damage after what it described as a severe wind event on July 9 that caused significant damage to power infrastructure and several structures.

In a Facebook post, the brigade said members checked on residents and ensured structures were safe. The National Weather Service had a flood warning in effect for Caledonia County and other areas through 10:45 p.m. that evening.

Police said the damage could indicate a severe microburst or tornado, but the National Weather Service has not yet confirmed that assessment. The brigade urged residents to allow utility crews to work and to remain cautious.
