A mature pine tree was snapped clean through and toppled into a tangle of broken limbs during a storm that swept through East Burke on the evening of July 9, 2026. The damage was among many downed trees reported across the Northeast Kingdom after high winds tore through the region.

Crews spent the following days clearing debris from roads and trails.
