The Kirby Selectboard approved the town's 2026 tax rates at its July 6 meeting. The municipal rate was set at 0.421, with a homestead rate of 1.4116 and a non-homestead rate of 1.6224.
Emergency Management representative Keith Wooster reported that the town is still awaiting $247,000 in federal disaster reimbursement for the Ridge Road bridge. The Federal Emergency Management Agency now requires documentation of where construction materials are disposed of, a change that Selectperson Jeff Hayes said he would discuss with Nate Sicard.
The board appointed Christin Paglen to a vacant Planning Board seat, effective July 6, on a motion from Chairperson Keith Isham.
Road Foreman John Ohina said he hopes to begin culvert replacements on Burroughs Road and Kirby Mountain Road next month with contractor JBL. Grant funding covers those projects, but an additional culvert on Kirby Mountain Road would not be funded by the grant.
The board also discussed new state fire warden rules and the possibility of naming a deputy warden. Isham said he would speak with Josh Willey about setting up a meeting with fire chiefs from Lyndonville and Concord.
Hayes flagged an unpermitted gate on a town road and asked the town clerk to forward gating rules to Heather Heigis, noting her gate could be removed. The board also asked Town Clerk Erin Patoine to check on a delinquent tax payment plan.
NEK will be looking into the status of the $247,000 FEMA reimbursement and the new documentation requirement, as well as the delinquent tax property.
