The town of Kirby is facing a tight deadline to secure an auditor for a federally required audit due September 1. Town Clerk Erin Patoine told the Selectboard at its June 1 meeting that she has been unable to find a firm willing to take on the work. The audit requirement stems from the town's level of federal obligations in 2025.

Patoine contacted multiple firms from a list provided by the Vermont League of Cities and Towns and also posted the opportunity on the Vermont Business Registry, with no results. The only firm that expressed interest, Batchelder Associates, quoted a maximum price of $30,000. The board suggested Patoine check with other towns before accepting that offer.

In other business, Tracy Sherbrook updated the board on Kirby's 250th anniversary celebration, scheduled for July. She reported that donations have covered costs for a portable toilet rental and a bounce house, and that parking arrangements and vendors have been lined up. The board signed a state certificate confirming the town is hosting the event.

Sheriff Brandon Thrailkill reported that the department is on track to meet all contract hours for the first time due to improved staffing, and that deputies can now assist with additional community needs. He said he could hire more personnel if towns request expanded services.

The board also signed paperwork with the Bond Bank to extend the repayment period on the town's FEMA loan until construction work and reimbursements are complete.
