A head-on collision on Route 3 in Columbia left one person dead and five others hospitalized Friday night, June 19, according to New Hampshire State Police.
The crash occurred just after 9 p.m. when a 2012 Chevrolet Camaro traveling northbound crossed the centerline and struck a 2021 Chevrolet Silverado traveling southbound, troopers said. The driver of the Camaro, identified as Courtney Diamond, 25, of Pelham, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Silverado carried a family of five, two adults and three children. All five were taken to Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in Colebrook, where two were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and three for life-threatening injuries. All five were later transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Several bystanders stopped to help before emergency crews arrived. Responding agencies included Colebrook police and fire, New Hampshire Fish and Game, Pittsburg Police, Stratford Fire, and 45th Parallel EMS. Route 3 was closed for about three and a half hours for the investigation.
