Flood Warning for Barton River in Coventry through Afternoon

The National Weather Service in Burlington has issued a flood warning for the Barton River near Coventry in Orleans County. The warning runs from early morning through late afternoon on June 19.

Minor flooding is forecast. At 5:30 AM EDT the river stage was 7.9 feet. Flood stage is 8.0 feet. The river is expected to crest at 8.4 feet this morning before falling below flood stage later in the morning.

At 8.0 feet, Maple Street and River Road between Orleans and Coventry Station will flood. Extensive field and lowland flooding is also expected.

Police advise drivers to turn around and not drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Residents are asked to report flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement so the information can be passed to the National Weather Service.
