The Barton River crested its banks in Barton on Thursday, flooding yards of homes along the river. Heavy rain on Thursday afternoon also created areas of standing water on Route 16, requiring road crews to perform shoulder work.
According to the Newport Daily Express, a photo taken on Elm Street at around 5:45 p.m. Thursday showed the extent of the flooding.
