The North Country Girls Soccer Hall of Fame has selected Ellen Griffith and Kelly Herbert as its Class of 2026, the organization announced June 25.
Griffith, a forward who graduated in 1983, played four years for the Falcons and was part of the first NCU girls varsity team in 1979. During her career, the team went 42-15-1, a.737 winning percentage. She served as captain her senior year, leading the team to a 12-3-1 record and a Division I Final Four appearance. She was named to the Vermont All-State team and selected for the first Vermont/New Hampshire Lions State Cup match. Her 62 career goals place her among the top scorers in school history.
“I am honored and filled with gratitude to all the people that helped me become the soccer player I did, which ultimately led to my induction,” Griffith said in a statement. She credited her teammates, coaches, teachers, and family for shaping her career.
Herbert, a midfielder who graduated in 1990, transferred from California to NCU for her junior year. She helped the Falcons reach back-to-back Division I Final Fours in 1988 and 1989. As a senior captain, she scored seven goals and added six assists in the Metro Conference, earning All-Metro and All-State honors. She also played in the Vermont/New Hampshire Lions State Cup.
“I am deeply grateful and honored to be inducted,” Herbert said. She praised coach Batista for teaching her “the values of hard work, determination and perseverance.”
Future inductees must have been named to the Vermont All-State team or nominated by a coach, and must have demonstrated integrity and character. The hall of fame is sponsored by Stan’s Sports Stop.
