A 20-year-old Newport City man died and a passenger was injured in a single-vehicle crash Wednesday evening in Derby.
Vermont State Police responded around 7:33 p.m. to Route 105 near Salem Derby Road for a report of a crash with possible serious injuries. Investigators determined the driver, Aiden Lamoureaux, was traveling north on Salem Derby Road when he crossed Route 105, left the roadway and entered a field, where the vehicle rolled several times.
Lamoureaux was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the 2011 Volvo XC70, state police said. He suffered life-threatening injuries and died as a result. The passenger, 19-year-old Aiden Farrand of Charleston, was wearing a seat belt and sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries. Both were taken to hospitals; Lamoureaux died at UVM Medical Center.
Newport Ambulance Service, Orleans Ambulance and Derby Line Fire Department assisted at the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
Anyone with information about the vehicle before the crash is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Derby Barracks at 802-334-8881.
