A Newport man is facing charges after police said he tried to bite and spit on officers during an arrest Thursday evening on the Newport Boardwalk.
Geromy Wells, 41, was reported involved in a fight around 7:17 p.m. July 24, according to police. Officers said Wells appeared highly intoxicated and, when they moved to arrest him, he began kicking and headbutting a police cruiser. While being transported to North Country Hospital for evaluation, he spat on and attempted to bite officers.
After the hospital visit, Wells was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility. He was scheduled for arraignment Friday. Court records indicate Wells was already under conditions of release and has 13 prior convictions.
