On June 12 at approximately 2154 hours, Vermont State Police observed a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of Vermont Route 242 and Vermont Route 101 in Troy. When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver initially stopped and then fled, according to police.
The vehicle was later located at the Troy Recreation Area off East Main Street in North Troy. Troopers made contact with the vehicle and found a female passenger inside. She identified the operator as Damian Emerson, 26, of Newfield, Maine, and said Emerson had fled on foot.
Investigation revealed that the blue 2021 Nissan Altima with Maine registration had been reported stolen several days earlier. Emerson was found by the Orleans County Sheriff's Department at the intersection of East Main Street and Pine Street in North Troy and was taken into custody without further incident.
Emerson faces charges of criminal driving with a suspended license, aggravated operating without the owner's consent, and eluding a law enforcement officer. He was lodged at Northern State Correctional Facility in lieu of $5,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Orleans County court on June 15 at 1230 hours.
