Lupines are in full bloom across New Hampshire, with sweeping fields of purple drawing visitors and artists to the White Mountains region. Sugar Hill, a popular destination for lupine chasers, has been particularly busy as the flowers reach their peak.
Plein air painters have set up along roadsides to capture the colorful landscapes. Artist Kay Leigh Kearns of Denmark, Maine, was recently seen painting a view of lupines with mountains rising in the background on Sunset Hill Road in Sugar Hill. Melanie Barash Levitt, owner of Jackson Art Studio & Gallery in Jackson, was also working on a piece depicting the blooms.
The annual display attracts returning visitors each year, creating a buzz among bees and humans alike.
