Hit-and-run in Newbury; St. Johnsbury man held for domestic assault

Vermont State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that occurred the evening of June 19 on Route 301 in Newbury, between Wallace Hill Road and the Wells River Rail Trail. A white van reportedly side-swiped a white Chevrolet City Express while both were traveling toward Wells River. The van fled the scene and should have damage on the driver's side consistent with the collision. Anyone with information is asked to contact the St. Johnsbury barracks at (802) 748-3111 or submit anonymous tips online at vsp.vermont.gov/tipsubmit.

In a separate incident, St. Johnsbury police arrested Robbie Garan, 67, on June 19 on charges of second-degree aggravated domestic assault and violation of conditions of release. Garan was held without bail at Northeast Correctional Complex and was scheduled to appear in Caledonia Superior Court on June 22.

Other arrests reported in recent police logs include John Aubrecht, 44, of East Burke, charged with DUI-refusal in Lyndonville on June 19; Raymond Fregeau, 31, of Littleton, N.H., charged with DUI #1 in Barnet on June 10; and Kevin Szyych, 51, of Montgomery, charged with DUI-refusal in Montgomery on June 20.
