St. Johnsbury police say a young child found walking alone on a city street Friday morning has been identified and reunited with his mother.

The child, described as a boy about 4 or 5 years old, was spotted on Railroad Street wearing only pajamas and carrying a blanket, according to a police statement. Officers said the boy appeared to be nonverbal and could not provide information about where he lived or who his parents were.

Police initially asked the public for help identifying the child. About an hour later, police reported that both the child and his mother had been identified.

No further details about the circumstances or any potential charges have been released.
