A St. Johnsbury man is facing multiple felony charges after a series of incidents Friday afternoon in Groton, according to Vermont State Police.
Tristan Garcia, 26, was arrested around 3:30 p.m. July 17 after police say he assaulted multiple people and damaged property at several locations in the Caledonia County town. The charges include unlawful restraint, aggravated domestic assault, criminal threatening, unlawful mischief, disorderly conduct, two counts of violation of conditions of release, aggravated assault, and resisting arrest.
The incident began at the Groton Library, where Garcia allegedly threatened and assaulted at least one person before smashing a window at a nearby home. While troopers searched for Garcia, they were told he was inside an apartment with a family member he had threatened and was refusing to let leave. Garcia was armed with a handgun and had access to other weapons, police said. The family member eventually left the apartment, and Garcia fled on foot before being apprehended while resisting arrest.
Victims reported minor or no injuries. Property damage included broken windows.
Garcia was ordered held without bail at the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury. He is expected to be arraigned at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 20, in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in St. Johnsbury.
NEK will be looking into the conditions of release that Garcia allegedly violated, and whether prior charges or court orders were in place before this incident.
