The Vermont Community Broadband Board (VCBB) has announced the opening of the Groton Connectivity HUB, a new community technology center at 1334 Scott Highway in Groton. The hub is part of a $2.85 million USDA Community Connect Grant awarded to NEK Broadband to bring fiber-optic internet to all unserved addresses in the town.
The facility includes shared workspace, meeting space, computer workstations, and a privacy pod for accessing telehealth services. It is designed to support remote workers, students, entrepreneurs, job seekers, and residents who lack reliable home internet access.
“Broadband is more than connecting homes and businesses. It’s connecting people to opportunity,” said VCBB Executive Director Christine Hallquist. NEK Broadband Executive Director Christa Shute noted that as a public nonprofit, “all of our money goes back into either infrastructure, programming, or lowering prices.”
The Groton HUB is the first such center in NEK Broadband’s 72-town district. The organization plans to expand the program to other towns.
