Green ribbons now line Route 2 in Danville as the community grieves the loss of two young sisters killed in a head-on crash Saturday morning in Woodbury.

Vermont State Police say Jonathan Ross, 38, of Danville, was driving on Route 14 near Hattie Bell Road around 9:30 a.m. when his vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck. Ross's daughters, 2-year-old Rylin and 8-year-old Oliviah, died at the scene. Ross was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was not seriously hurt, police said.

Danville resident Marge Ste. Marie cut the green ribbons from a tablecloth she had at home. The color matches Danville School's colors. "I just feel like I can't do anything, and this is just a small thing that we can do," Ste. Marie said.

Local resident Sarah Carson described the mood: "It's been absolutely terrible. It's been devastating. Yeah, the community is feeling it really hard. It's unimaginable."

In a statement, Danville School remembered Oliviah as "incredibly smart, filled with curiosity, and always asked thoughtful questions" and noted she "was most proud to be Rylin's big sister."

Police continue to investigate the cause of the crash. A spokesperson declined to say whether charges are pending against Ross.
