A recently highlighted photograph shows Joseph H. Peterson, a young man from Massachusetts who served in the Civilian Conservation Corps camp in East Burke, Vermont, during the 1930s. Peterson worked on building the toll road to the summit of Burke Mountain. The image, provided by Peterson, offers a glimpse into the era when the CCC helped develop recreational infrastructure in the Northeast Kingdom. The full story on Peterson's experience can be found in a related feature in North Star Monthly.
