LYNDONVILLE, The Burklyn Arts Council will hold its annual craft fair on Saturday, July 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Bandstand Park in downtown Lyndonville. The event will take place rain or shine.

The fair features juried crafts, children's activities, live music, food, and the organization's famous strawberry shortcake. State COVID-19 protocols will be in effect at the time of the event.

All profits from the fair support grants and scholarships for arts programs in schools and communities within the Kingdom East Unified School District. Burklyn Arts Co-Chair Susan Gallagher said exhibitors must pass a rigorous jury process. “Crafts are evaluated for originality, excellence of workmanship, mastery of their medium, technical proficiency, and aesthetics,” Gallagher said. “The process is difficult but necessary to maintain Burklyn’s high standards.”

Money raised by the two annual fairs also assists 14 towns within the district, covering costs for professional performances, artist residencies, the Jim Doyle Eighth Grade Scholarships, the Elizabeth Brouha Senior Scholarship, and supplies for special projects. The eighth-grade scholarships honor Jim Doyle, a former Burklyn president and Lyndon State College instructor. The senior scholarship, named for founder Elizabeth Brouha of Sutton, can reach $2,000 and supports graduating seniors pursuing arts studies in college.

Additional grant recipients have included Vermont Children’s Theater, Upward Bound at NVU-Lyndon, the Satellite Gallery, and the Kingdom East After-School Program. Burklyn is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff.
