The Town of Barton will hold a tax sale on July 16, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the town office, with 18 properties slated for auction. Town Clerk and Treasurer Kristin Atwood has been authorized to place bids on each property up to the amount owed to the town, ensuring Barton recovers delinquent taxes.
The sale follows a recent property revaluation by New England Municipal Consultants, which more than doubled most assessed values. Atwood addressed questions about the new valuations at the selectboard meeting last Wednesday, noting that while she can explain tax rate implications, the assessors are best suited to discuss valuation methodology.
Other selectboard business included a request from an employee for additional vacation time, which was tabled until the next meeting.
