Barton Village trustees have been informed that USDA grant funding will not be available to build a third wastewater lagoon. Jeremiah Borsoi, chief officer of the village’s wastewater treatment plant, suggested using a plot of land next to the plant’s driveway and the village garage. However, the property is not large enough for the proposed lagoon, according to Borsoi.
The trustees had been exploring the third lagoon as part of ongoing upgrades to the village’s wastewater system. The funding denial leaves the village to seek alternative financing or redesign the project.
NEK will be looking into the status of the wastewater upgrade project and potential funding sources.
