BARTON, A proposal to add three underground propane storage tanks at the rail yard on May Farm Road has drawn attention from the Barton Selectboard, which expressed concern this week about not being included in the review process.
Selectman Ted Gattino attended a meeting at the rail yard with zoning administrator Sarah Bailey, Orleans Village Fire Chief E.J. Rowell, and village trustee Sen. John Morley. The meeting was held to learn about plans to add two rail spurs connecting to the tanks, which would serve as a regional distribution hub for propane delivered by truck.
Developer Dead River of Maine is working with the landowner on the project. The Vermont Railroad Association, which oversees public and private railroad tracks in the state, also attended the meeting.
Gattino said the plan is to develop regional distribution via trucks delivering propane from the site. The selectboard indicated at their June 30 meeting that they feel left out of the review process for the planned addition.
