Sam Boucher, custodian at the Central Orleans Family Education Center (COFEC) in Barton, received a statewide award on Friday in a surprise ceremony. Boucher, who has maintained the 10,000-square-foot building for about six years, typically starts his day at 4 a.m., handling trash, recycling, and deep cleaning before students and staff arrive at 7:45 a.m. He thought he was called in for a routine cleanup but instead was honored for his dedication.
COFEC staff described Boucher as a positive presence who plays Daft Punk while working and is deeply committed to helping children. The award, announced by school police, recognizes his contribution to a safe and clean learning environment.
