Three tennis courts and a basketball court at Derby Community Park were slated to be repaved and converted into a park-and-ride parking lot, but advocates have asked the Derby Selectboard to spare two of the tennis courts. A basketball and tennis court, along with four pickleball courts, have been relocated to a higher elevation within the park.

The photo, taken by Ed Barber and published by the Newport Daily Express, shows three tennis courts, two of which are the focus of the tennis community. The fate of those courts remains undecided as the selectboard considers the park-and-ride plan.
