Amanda Yoresh, a Northeast Kingdom educator and columnist, recently published a summer reflection covering local trails, the Derby Fourth of July parade, and a growing interest in Summerween crafting.

Yoresh highlighted the Newport Waterfront Recreation Path, which runs from downtown Newport to near the Canadian border in North Derby, and Lake Seymour in Morgan, which she described as exceptionally clear. She noted that swimmers should check the state's Cyanobacteria Tracker before visiting.

The Derby Fourth of July parade featured a red-white-and-blue painted horse, tractors, and a donkey named Thunder, according to Yoresh.

She also discussed Summerween, a holiday inspired by the Disney show "Gravity Falls," celebrated on June 22 with watermelon jack-o-lanterns. Yoresh included a cross-stitch pattern for readers to try.
