Community National Bank employees in Derby, Newport, and Troy have contributed $750 to the Northeast Kingdom Council on Aging’s (NEKCOA) Fuel Fund, with the bank matching the donation to bring the total to $1,500.

The funds came from the bank’s “jean money” program, in which employees can wear jeans on Fridays in exchange for a donation. Each office manages its own pool, and when the amount grows enough, staff choose a cause.

CNB employees DeAnn Meunier, Laura Bennett, and Julie Marquis delivered the donation to NEKCOA Director of Communications and Development Mary Ellen Reis and Case Manager Randi Morse.

“We are very grateful for the long-standing support of the NEKCOA by Community National Bank,” Reis said. “With their support, we are even closer to our goal of raising $20,000 for the 2023 NEKCOA Fuel Fund.”

NEKCOA started fundraising early this year due to rising fuel costs. With the bank’s donation, they have raised $16,000 toward a goal that was doubled from last year. In 2022, the fund helped 40 families, 21 in northern NEK and 19 in the south.

“We expect this number to grow this year and with the help of our generous community partners, we are well positioned to offer a helping hand,” Reis said.
