WELLS RIVER, A small group of residents voted at a special village meeting May 28 to authorize a $200,000 withdrawal from the general fund to cover expenses that belong to the sewage district.
The meeting drew fewer than 25 attendees. The money is intended to pay bills that the sewage district should have covered on its own, according to village police.
No additional details about the specific expenses or why the sewage district could not pay them were provided at the meeting.
NEK will be looking into the sewage district's financial records and the village board's justification for the transfer.
